Charles Haddon Spurgeon described the study of the Psalms as “feasting on angels’ food.” Its laments and praises seem to echo the cry of our own hearts, giving form, volume and expression to our feelings. Reading the Psalms is like sneaking a peak at the diary of “everyman,” whose heart is laid bare before the Lord.
Psalm 84:5 tells us, “blessed are they … whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.” A pilgrimage is moving toward a sacred spot; a pilgrimage of the heart is moving toward the Lord from grace to grace.
