Bible Studies from the Holy Land: A Visual Presentation
January 6 – April 21 / 6:30 – 7:30pm / B102
Teacher: Ernie Seger (who just returned from the Holy Land)

Using the popular video production “That the World May Know”, which was filmed on site in the Holy Land, this course will integrate an understanding of the land and culture of Bible times to enhance an understanding of the Bible truths.  Using video and powerpoint, you will see the geography and learn the historical context of major events in the Old and New Testaments.  As they come to life visually and historically, their significance will become clearer for today.

Belief Matters: A Fresh View of the Apostle’s Creed
January 6 – April 21 / 6:30 – 7:30pm / C100
Teacher: Jon Becker

Applying the essentials of the Christian faith to the believer’s daily walk.  A friend asks you what Christianity is really all about. Can you give an accurate summary – in 30 seconds? Maybe an unexpected trauma threatens to undermine your faith. Do you have a way to affirm your convictions and stand strong?

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to answer these challenges.  Through the ages, the church has provided a few brief statements of the essentials of the faith. This study will use up-to-date language and plenty of practical applications to help you learn, understand, and remember the basics of belief.

Just having faith isn’t enough. What you believe really does matter. Find out how you can stand with believers from around the world and through the centuries and say, “I believe…”

Creating and Implementing Your Personal Strategic Plan
January 6 – January 20 / 6:30 – 7:30pm / C101
Teacher:
Susan Ison

Start the New Year with a tool that will offer you immense help as you strive to discover and live out those good plans the Lord has for you.   Do you often find yourself torn as you try to make decisions about how you can best spend those few hours you are given each day?  Or do you find yourself not even thinking about how to best spend your time and let come what may?   In this class for all ages, you will be given a tool which may alter how you currently respond to those two questions.  Life is a series of choices and the quality of our lives is directly proportional to the quality of our choices. You will learn specific steps including writing a vision for your life and you will develop and begin implementation of a plan to live out that vision and, therefore, improve the quality of your decisions and the quality of your life.  A well-lived life is a disciplined life and the tool of developing a personal strategic plan will help you in that endeavor.  Susan Ison, life-long member of 2PC, has been involved in strategic planning for businesses and individuals for twenty-five years.  Materials will be provided.

This class is intended primarily for parents expecting their first child and parents of infants up to 12 months old.  It will focus on some of the most practical issues for new parents and their babies – feeding, waketime and nighttime sleep cycles, etc.  Our goals are to encourage parents in maintaining a healthy husband-wife relationship, and to provide parents with options so that they can determine a plan for infant nurturing that is right for you.  Moms and dads are very much encouraged to attend together.

A resource book will be used, and will be available for purchase for $12.  To assist us in planning, please sign up by contacting Susan Eldridge at 2PC, 454-0034, x145.

Paul’s Theology and Paul’s Prison Epistles – A Third Millennium Video Study
January 6 – April 21 / 6:30pm – 7:30pm / C102
Teacher: Dr. Reggie M. Kidd
Facilitator:
Randy Flatt

Paul passionately proclaimed the good news of individual salvation in Jesus Christ. But this wasn't the heart of Paul's gospel.   According to Paul, salvation is not primarily about individuals being saved from the wrath of God. Rather, the gospel is about the triumph of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God. It is about God redeeming and recreating the heavens and the earth through Jesus Christ, and about our participation in that renewed world.

As Christians we face many challenges to our faith. False teachings and worldviews assault our loyalty to Christ. Suffering tempts us to think that God is not in control, or that he does not have our best interests at heart. And our relationships with other believers are often strained to the point that we doubt the value of the church.   But Paul had responses to these types of difficulties — responses that he outlined in his letters from prison.
