Second Wednesday

Second Wednesday was formed by the Session as a way for us, as a corporate body of believers, to make prayer a more intentional part of worship at Second.

We encourage you to participate in this important time of communion with the Lord and with each other every second Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall as we join in both small group and plenary prayer. While small groups do pray aloud, you are not expected to pray and are welcome to participate through silent prayer. Second Wednesday meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Pray that our ministry partners will feel welcomed, honored, and encouraged; 
Pray that many from 2PC will be challenged to serve our neighbors in Memphis;
Pray that God will challenge us through our speakers - Rufus Smith, Richard Rieves, and Sandy Willson; 
Pray for many to serve and for good weather on our Day of Service. 
2PC Special Initiatives
Berclair Elementary School
Pray for the faculty as they face the challenge of more stringent testing requirements;
Pray for more 2PC members to be involved and for meaningful relationships to develop.
Downtown Presbyterian Church
-  Pray for a smooth transition to the new location - 456 Tennessee St;
- Pray that God will direct and bless efforts relating to an anticipated public launch on Oct 3; 
-  Pray for a deep sense of commitment to the vision for the church to emerge among those participating in the launch team. 
Esperanza (Hispanic Church Plant
Pray for wisdom for Ricardo as he focuses on the development of the core group; 
Pray for Hispanic participants to be involved in the worship team;
Pray for growth in the 4 home Bible studies and for these to become a bridge for the Sunday worship services.
Su Casa Family Ministries 
Praise for God’s provision of Tim Jewett as the new Executive Director and ask God to  provide wisdom and insight for him;
Pray for good participation in the ESL program, for 2 more teachers and 5 more volunteers for the children’s ministries;
Pray that relationships will be developed and that the ESL program will effectively connect Hispanic families to worship services and Bible studies.
Ministry Partners 
Pray for encouragement of our ministry partners as new fall programs begin;
Pray that God will continue to bring hope and healing to those in need and that the Gospel will be proclaimed;
Pray for the financial resources needed to sustain ministry programs – as many feel the impact of reduced funding resulting from the economic downtown;
Pray that members of 2PC will become increasingly involved and supportive of the work of our ministry partners.

Mission

  • Vision Banquet, “A Heart for Mission,” August 31.  
  • Pray for the growth of Esperenza and Downtown Presbyterian.  
  • Kim Blankenship, as she helps connect our members to ministry opportunities.
  • Our missionaries, strategic international partners, short-term missions teams.  The Kenya team leaves August 17 to work with women and pastors in Nairobi, focused on the Kibera slum.  
  • Pray for Nathan Street Ministries. A Club Nathan student died suddenly last week. Ask God to use Willie Baldwin and the club leaders to comfort all who are grieving, and also pray that hearts of kids and families will be opened to the Gospel as a result of Lexi’s death.
  • Praise God for His blessing on the Youth Visions/2PC missions trip to New Orleans. Ask God to use their example of building meaningful relationships to be a model for all of us at 2PC.
  • Pray for Advance Memphis asking God to provide employment for the participants in the Jobs for Life program and for the students who will complete the GED program next week. 
  • Pray for Downtown Pres high school graduate who was killed on Sunday.  Jerome was active in the church and growing in his faith. Pray for his mom, girlfriend and community.  Please pray also for Terrance Young, his youth leader at Streets Ministries.
  • Pray for a 2PC team headed to Argentina this weekend to look at future short term trips for Second to aid in church planting in Buenos Aires.
  • Pray for Ryan and Glenda Bowles and their three children who arrived in Jordan last week.  Pray for their transition to their new home and ministry.
  • Pray for Dawn McCordic as she adjusts to being a widow and single parent of her three sons.
  • Continue in prayer for our World Relief partner, Joke van Opstal and her daughter, Anna, who continues to be very sick in Holland, as well as for Joke’s health problems.
