Volunteer Ministries

As Tim Keller writes in his book, Ministries of Mercy, “To spread the kingdom is more than simply winning people to Christ. It is also working for the healing of persons, families, relationships, and nations; it is doing deeds of mercy and seeking justice. It is ordering lives and relationships and institutions and communities according to God’s authority to bring in the blessedness of the kingdom.” You can spread the kingdom by working for healing in our own community. Please use your special gifts and talents to become involved with one of our ministries today!

Berclair Supply Drive:

Our annual supply drive for our adopt a school, Berclair Elementary, is coming up and we need everyone's help.   The items we donate each year supplies Berclair with essential tools needed to carry out the teaching of some of our most under resourced children.    We will be collecting assigned items in each of our CC's on Sundays August 1, 8 and 15.   Your service officer in your CC will announce your assigned item.  For those who want to give beyond or outside of a CC we ask that you donate white copy paper and leave it at the main reception desk.  REMEMBER TAX FREE SCHOOL SUPPLY SHOPPING WILL BE AUGUST 6 and 7 this year. Thank you!  Call Natasha Hughes at 454-0034, ext 199 for questions.

SOS114 Thank you:

Thank you to all of you who supported SOS114 Orange Mound camp this past week! The staff told me that all 2PC volunteers were terrific and so kind and helpful. SOS114 is doing an incredible job showing their weekly campers how to serve and model Jesus Christ as well as helping people who need it most in the Orange Mound community. It was a wonderful week and I appreciate you all so much for your help. Same time, same place next year - so be ready!!!

The Neighborhood School

If you are unable to physically serve our ministries we have many who are needing donations to help send their students to summer camps and one is The Neighborhood School. Each family is required to pay $25 toward the cost of each camp but much more is needed.

2nd - 5th Grade Christian Summer Camp Opportunities

The beautiful facilities at The Country Place Retreat in Moscow will be provided for our use for two nights and three days for a TNS run youth camp. We need volunteers to supervise children, to prepare food, and to provide round trip transportation.

6th - 7th Grade Christian Summer Camp Opportunities

July 25 - 31, we are planning to take the remaining 10 of our 6th & 7th graders to Lakeshore United Methodist Camp located in Eva, TN. Junior High camps are a 7 day / 6 night experience for campers ages 12 - 14. We need much help with the $300 per camper fee.

Youth Leadership of Memphis

Mission Statement: Changing lives of young men through the principles of strength, honor, and truth in the Christian tradition. This ministry meets on Saturday’s only where volunteers are partnered with young (mostly 14 - 18 but some 5 and up) inner city men working side by side performing yard work at specific locations and being a strong role model while you work. As a volunteer, you would transport the kids from breakfast/lunch to the designated yards where you will be working. Through the platform of work, YLM is teaching the young men about responsibility, stewardship, accountability, and leadership all through the perspective of a Christian. Since we work with young men, we are looking mainly for men as volunteers. You work all day or either morning shift or afternoon shift. Please contact Chris Oliver at 591-1905 for more information or to volunteer.

Caring Ministry

Our transportation ministry allows our seniors to stay independent and be active and we need drivers. Drive our church bus for church services on Sunday mornings or drive your car to help transport members to doctors appointments and to the grocery. This is a beautiful way to honor our seniors by serving them. Contact Gail Stevens at 454-0034, ext. 105
