Service
One by One
One by One is an important effort designed to connect under-resourced pregnant mothers with women who can guide them through their pregnancies and early years of motherhood.
Each year in Memphis, thousands of babies are born to unwed mothers who themselves have never been properly parented, resulting in an astonishing infant mortality rate as well as the cycle of poverty and crime that plague our inner-city. Every baby needs love and nurture during the critical window of development – prenatal through three years. Expectant and new mothers benefit from support and encouragement, and this is exactly what One by One provides. We are commanded in Scripture to care for the needy by following Jesus’ example of serving others. This is a great opportunity for us to show the love of Jesus while meeting the physical needs of those close to home.
Second cooperates with other faith based initiatives in our city who are focused on establishing solid relationships with moms and their babies. Volunteers are trained to educate new and expectant mothers about the growth and development of their babies, introduce parenting skills and baby care, and most importantly, reach the family for Christ.

World Missions
Here at Second we share a common interest with our partners around the world in seeing non-believers come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We believe that God will spread His Kingdom through indigenous leaders reaching their own country with the Gospel, and it is our privilege to partner with them.
Once again, for the seventh consecutive year, we have a group of women going to Southeast Asia to lead a Women’s Conference. Realizing the cultural differences, the group from Second seeks to be a light in a dark world. It is their prayer that they go as servants, not imposing their own culture, but affirming their like-mindedness with women who share their love for Christ. This trip is scheduled for fall 2011.
For the third time, a group of women are going to Kenya to partner with Judy Mbugua in her Homecare Spiritual Fellowship ministry. They will be working directly with women and children in the Kibera slum area of Nairobi, women with HIV AIDS, grandmothers who care for children who have lost their mothers to AIDS, a sewing class, and pastor training. It is the team’s prayer that they would bare witness to Jesus Christ by showing His love and compassion as they spend time with these different groups of people. This trip is scheduled for August 2011.
Now is a good time for you to consider what your involvement in future trips will be. Some may be called to go, others to pray, others to give. Pray and ask the Lord what He would have you do with missions around the world in the coming year.
If you feel called to participate, please contact the WIM office to let us know of your interest.
