October 3-5, 2014 • Second Presbyterian Church

CityServe 2014 will focus on the growing diversity in our city. We hope to learn more about the needs and challenges of the international community in Memphis and to better understand how we are blessed by their presence in the city.

Wednesday, October 1

MidWeek Special Event - Diversity in Our City

6:15pm in the Fellowship Hall—immediately following MidWeek Dinner

  • Steve Moses, Director of World Relief-Memphis: Overview of the changing demographics in our city

  • Ruth Lomo, Sudanese refugee, Founder of Refugee Empowerment Program, 2PC Member: Her story of coming to Memphis (video)

  • Gaye Carter, REP Volunteer/Board Member, 2PC Member: Outreach efforts of Refugee Empowerment Program

  • Anna Lansford, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship: Ministry to International Students at the University of Memphis

 

Friday, October 3  

Community Forum - Engaging the World in Memphis

6:30pm in the Sanctuary

Pastor Bryan Loritts, Lead Pastor of Fellowship Memphis, will provide the keynote address. Come hear inspiring stories of immigrants and refugees in our city and learn about the role of World Relief in the resettlement of refugees in our city and Second's ministry to Hispanic families in the Berclair/Graham Heights neighborhood. 

A special program for children (ages 5 through 5th grade) will be hosted in the Gym from 6:15-8:00pm. Reservations are required and will be available online close to the event. Pizza will be provided.

 

Saturday, October 4

CityServe Saturday

8:30am, Various Locations

Congregational Communities will participate in events at sites of 12 ministry partners throughout the city. We encourage families to participate together at the assigned projects.

Sunday, October 5

Sunday Worship Services

8:15am, 11:00am, and 6:00pm in the Sanctuary

Our guest speaker at the Sunday worship services will be Dr. Soong-Chan Rah, author and professor at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL and formerly the founding Senior Pastor of the Cambridge Community Fellowship Church in Massachusetts. In addition, several of our ministry partners will be speaking in Congregational Communities.

A reception honoring our ministry partners will follow the Sunday evening service.


CityServe Childcare

Childcare for ages 4 and under will be available on Friday evening from 6:15-8:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am-1:30pm (please pack food if your child will stay through lunchtime). Reservations are required for childcare and will be available online close to the event.

CityServe Food Drive

During the week beginning September 28 we will be collecting specified food items for the Neighborhood Christian Centers and household items for the Refugee Empowerment Program. More information will be forthcoming through Congregational Communities.
