Interested in Signing Up?

Most of these trips require no special skills or talents other than a desire to serve our Lord and minister to others in His name. The World Missions Office and the team leaders will help prepare you, both spiritually and physically, for the trip. You can pick up a short-term trip application in the World Missions Office. These trips are designed for members of Second and great care goes into their planning and execution. Therefore, you will need approval from both the team leader and your CC pastoral liaison after you have submitted your application.

The Missions Committee pledges $500 toward the cost for each member, and the World Missions staff and team leaders can provide help and suggestions for raising additional funds.

Since passports are needed and in some cases visas are required, advance planning is important. If you are interested in any of these trips, please don’t delay in contacting the World Missions Office or the team leader.

Argentina

Argentina Team: Megan and Jonathan Hulgan, Dr. Sam and Meredith Shaw, Jake Greer, Barbara Ruff, Lauren Wilson, Elizabeth Batchelor, Tim Jewett, Mike Stokke.

Over the week of June 26-July 4, a team from 2PC made the journey to Buenos Aires, Argentina to serve alongside the ministry of La Mision church. It was a busy week from beginning to end, as the team was involved in: community ministries to children; painting and cleaning ministry locations and in the church facility itself; teaching sewing classes; leading a seminar for community support group leaders; attending and sharing at numerous cell group meetings; encouraging church leaders; and participating in worship. The team was humbled at the privilege of serving together with our Argentine brothers and sisters for the sake of the Gospel, and we look forward to returning again in the future.

Ukraine

Ukraine Trade School and Orphan Sports Camps: Sports Camp Team: John and Marilyn Whittemore Trade School Camp Team: John and Marilyn Whittemore, Dan Whipple, Hannah Fuson, Luke McCann

The sports camp used soccer to show obedience, listening to instruction and trust as models for faith. With lots of time for worship, small group bible study and soccer, the students were encouraged to seek the Lord. The good news of Jesus was the focus of the evening service. At the end of the camp, twelve students expressed a desire to commit their lives to Christ. The folks from Christian Ethics will follow up with these students through the year. The orphanages sent some students who had nowhere else to go during the summer break and their needs were great. Some had very short attention spans but were able to hear the power of a life changing relationship with Christ. At the Trade school camp, John and Marilyn were joined by Dan Whipple, Luke McCann and Hannah Fuson. The study included “five lies that ruin relationships” based on a Bruce Wilkinson study. The students enjoyed bible study, worship, sports, crafts and small group activities. We were blessed to have one young lady express her knowledge of Christ as her savior. A young man made a profession of faith after returning to his home church at the end of camp. Many of the students are currently in our trade school program and others are exploring the possibility of entering the scholarship program. Two recent graduates have been accepted into University and will continue their studies! Please continue to pray for the students who attended both camps, that the Lord will work in their hearts, to draw them closer to Him.

Cambodia

Cambodia ESL Team: Cathy Crowe, Jan DeBerry, Pat Bogan, Elizabeth Wall, Karen Taylor, Deborah Freeman

The aim of our two-week mission was to kick off a summer long program of teaching English to the staff members of World Relief. Learning the English language would enable these emerging leaders to have access to a greater body of Christian literature that would in turn increase their knowledge of the Bible and would further equip them to be stronger leaders in the organization. We were inspired by these young staff members who were dedicated to ministering to those who seemed far away from any comfort of civilization. The penetrating heat and other challenging circumstances suddenly seemed insignificant to us as we realized the invaluable opportunity we had been given to play a small role in what could be deemed the "frontline" of God's work in Cambodia. What a privilege it was to teach those who are actively working to bring God's love and healing into their country. One student left us with the following words of gratitude: "Thanks to you for loving our country."
