Key Initiatives

MCS Adopt-A-School, Berclair Elementary

In 2005, Second Presbyterian adopted Berclair Elementary through the Memphis City Schools Adopt-a-School program. Through donations of both time and money we seek to support these students while showing them the love of Christ.

Su Casa/Esperanza Church

The more we learned about the Berclair neighborhood, the more we discovered ways to help our Hispanic neighbors. SuCasa Ministries started by offering ESL classes, and soon developed Adult Bible Studies. In 2008 Comunidad Cristiana Esperanza began worshiping as Second's first Spanish-speaking church plant.

New Church Planting Initiative

In 2015 Second Presbyterian formed a partnership with Hope Presbyterian Church and Fellowship Memphis to work collaboratively in planting new churches. The partnership has adopted the name “SPARC” which stands for serving, planting, and revitalizing churches. The vision of SPARC is to see healthy Gospel-based churches in every zip code in Memphis — churches that exist for God’s glory and are transformative in the lives of their members and neighborhoods. Second’s goal is to plant two new Gospel-centered churches in the Memphis area — one being a holistic (largely mono-ethnic), neighborhood-based church in an under-resourced neighborhood and the other a distinctly multi-ethnic church.
