Jeff started the first RUF in Japan, and Katie ministers to moms through a children’s playgroup. Because Japanese are the second largest unreached people group in the world, they host weekly English conversation nights, lead Bible discussions, and meet one-on-one with students—creating a welcoming space where mostly non-Christian students can explore Christianity at their own pace. They are developing and equipping Japanese RUF staff and student leaders so the ministry becomes increasingly Japanese-led and sustainable. After 5.5 years at Waseda University, they launched the first RUF Kairos group, a growing monthly gathering that introduces students to Christianity. Jeff also serves as an associate pastor at Grace Harbor Church, preaching and helping the church reach young adults in Tokyo.

Pray that Yui, their Christmas baptism student, Mamoru, and two seekers would continue to grow in understanding, courage, and joy as they take steps toward Jesus in a culture where Christian commitment often feels costly and isolating.

Pray for deeper partnership with the Presbyterian Church in Japan, and for wisdom as Jeff & Katie pursue the long-term vision of training and hiring Japanese campus ministers and interns to expand RUF’s ministry in Tokyo.

Pray for their health, joy, and endurance in ministry, and for good rhythms as they parent, serve, and make space for rest in a busy season of life and ministry in Japan.
