Special Needs

The Shine Ministry strives to effectively communicate the gospel to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and to eliminate barriers that prevent them and their families from living in community with the body of Christ.

 

RESPITE DAYS

We are excited to offer respite days for families who utilize the Shine Ministry. Respite care is a short-term period of rest for primary caregivers provided by a third party. Learn more about why we offer respite care.

Thursday, 5:30-8:30pm, in the Shine Room (dinner provided)

 2PC sports

If you have a child with special needs who is interested in joining a 2PC sports team, contact Audrey Hamm, who will help place your child on the right team for him/her and coordinate any additional support that may be necessary. 

Shine Basketball Registration is Open!
Saturdays from 2:00-3:30pm, January 20-March 16
Ages 15+ (cost is $40)

Weekly Programming


Sunday Mornings

9:45am - Shine Sunday School
Our Special Needs Sunday School class meets at 9:45am in room N-101. Bible lessons, activities, and games are adapted all ages and functioning levels.

11:00am - Fellowship Hour 
Volunteers are available to care for and fellowship with Shine participants in room N-101 while parents/guardians attend 11:00am worship on Sunday.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS WITH SHINE 

Each Wednesday from 6:15-7:30pm, we host a rotating schedule of themed activities in room N-101. Join us as we have fun and worship the Lord together!

 

Volunteer Opportunities

 

SHADOW

Shadow during Sunday School: Joining a shadow team means you will volunteer one time each month on an assigned Sunday (for example: you may volunteer on the 1st Sunday of each month).

Teach or Assist

Teach or assist in our Shine Sunday school class! Current available slots: 
  • Teacher & assistant to volunteer monthly on the 1st Sunday of each month
  • Teacher & assistant to volunteer every other month on the 2nd Sunday of the month

Fellowship Hour volunteer

Volunteers hang out with Shine participants while parents/guardians attend 11:00 am worship on Sunday. This is an hour to build community within the Shine ministry.
  

Wednesday Night volunteer 

"Wednesday Nights with Shine" meets weekly throughout the school year from 6:15-7:30pm. Wednesday nights are a great time to build community we can't do it without our amazing volunteers! View the fun schedule above!
 

Respite Event Volunteer

Throughout the year, we will have multiple respite events to offer primary caregivers time of rest. If you are interested in volunteering for an upcoming respite event, contact Audrey Hamm.
