Second Members Give a Hand for the Holidays

Dec 30, 2009

We would like to give a warm thanks to all our 2PC members who have shared their hearts by serving during this special Advent season. Here are a few ways our members served the community:

  • Each of the 581 children at Berclair Elementary School received a book as a Christmas gift from Second Presbyterian Church. Thanks to all the members who donated to this effort.
  • Second’s 6th grade Sunday school class put together 44 shoe boxes for Memphis Union Mission filled with hats, gloves, undergarments, and hygiene products to help the homeless men in our city stay warm and cared for during the winter months.
  • The Sojourners and Chapel Class spent Saturdays in December ringing bells for the Salvation Army in memory of Nancy Crosby, long-time Second and Salvation Army Auxiliary member.
  • An ornament party was thrown by the Genesis CC class for the foster kids of Bethany Christian Services. Some of the graduates of Teen Challenge prepared and served the party meal, making it a way for two of our ministry partners to come together in serving others.
  • article-lil-princessThrough their generosity, members Kevin and Joyce Ruby sent 40 young girls in the “Little Princess Program” with Eikon Ministries to see The Frog Princess. Thanks to Kathy Wilson and Natasha Hughes who helped organize this magical day.
  • The Crossroads CC recently adopted our ministry partner, Victims to Victory for the holidays by volunteering at the annual reception of Victim to Victory’s Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony, a service held to remember victims of violent crime. Crossroads also adopted the 12 boys living in the boys’ dormitory at The Neighborhood School, hoping to make their Christmas a little brighter.

We want to thank the many others who gave of their hearts in service during this advent and we thank everyone for being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Happy New Year! Volunteer Ministries
