Migration in Light of Scripture: A World Relief Seminar Series

Every Thursday, from 07/12/2018 to 08/02/2018, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

2PC Fellowship Hall, 4055 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN US 38111

Join us for a 4-week series titled "Welcome: An Invitation to Study Migration in Light of Scripture," led by Karen Spencer of World Relief Memphis on Thursday evenings, July 12-August 2 from 6:30-8:00pm.

It can be challenging to hold a grace-based conversation about immigration when people are confronted with fearful soundbites and images and torn about how to respond. Yet every day we recognize God’s call to welcome the stranger, serve the least of these, and reach all nations. But the migration of people has been part of God’s story long before it was a political one. If you would you benefit from a safe place to discuss immigration issues in light of scripture, this 4-week study is for you. Please note: Childcare will not be provided.

Session Topics:

  • Week 1: Migration and Loving Immigrants in Scripture
  • Week 2: From Policy to Real People: Meet Vulnerable Immigrants
  • Week 3: How Immigrants are Reshaping the American Church
  • Week 4: How Can Christians Respond?

For 20 years, Karen Spencer has been advocating for the Church to embrace God’s design to actively love our neighbor both here and around the world. At World Relief since 2016, she speaks regularly at area churches and schools, bringing biblical and factual awareness to the current refugee and immigration crisis.

Through empowering the local church to serve the most vulnerable, World Relief Memphis envisions transformed communities and integration — not just stability — of refugees and immigrants. Through resettlement services, employment services, English classes, immigration legal services, volunteer mobilization, church and community engagement, World Relief Memphis works to bring unity amidst the beautiful diversity of our city.
