As we stand between the ninth and tenth plagues in our study of Exodus, Deuteronomy 7:6-11 helps us understand why God went to such great lengths to save his people. 

 

I. Who are God’s people? (v. 6)

Discussion Questions

  1. Who are God’s people? (v. 6):
    A. What are the two ways God’s people are described in verse 6 and what do they mean?
    B. What events leading up to this passage demonstrate that these descriptions are true? 
    C. Do you think of yourself as being described this same way by God? If not, why so? How is the way God saved you different from the way he saved the Israelites? How is it the same?
  2. Why are they God’s people? (vv. 7-8): 
    A. How would you describe each of the four types of love in verses 7-8? 
    B. Why did God choose the Israelites? 
    C. If God chose you for the same reason, what does that mean for your relationship with him?
  3. How do we know they are God’s people? (vv. 9-11):
    A. What are the things verses 9-10 call readers to know?
    B. What does verse 11 call readers to do?
    C. In light of how God’s love described in this passage applies to anyone who is in Christ, is there anything specific you feel compelled to do?
