Resuming Worship at Second

by George Robertson on June 04, 2020

Dear 2PC Family,

I’m writing to share with you our tentative plan to resume on-campus worship on June 21. I’ve missed us being together!

Why tentative? Throughout the pandemic, we’ve been closely monitoring reports from our local health department and the CDC as well as recommendations from our City and County leaders. Earlier this week Mayor Strickland extended the Phase II Back to Business plan until at least June 16, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in our county.

We consider the City’s phases to be appropriate indicators of when it might be safest for us to be together, though they are not mandates. Therefore, we will continue to be in close contact with you about whether we will indeed gather on campus on June 21—we hope so—or whether we’ll need to wait a bit longer.

We appreciate the survey feedback you sent. Your thoughts and concerns have been very helpful to our planning.

Here are some things we’d like you to know:

  • When we return on campus, it will be for morning worship at 8:15 and 11:00am (there will be NO Sunday School/CCs or evening worship on campus). Our nursery will remain closed during worship.
  • Worship in the Sanctuary will be simulcast into both the Chapel and the Fellowship Hall. These three locations will assure enough space to be socially distant. Masks will be required in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall and suggested in the Chapel.
  • Online streaming of Sunday services will continue. If you have been or are feeling ill, have travelled to a high-risk area, are immunocompromised or caring for a vulnerable family member, or do not feel ready to return to campus, please worship with us online.
  • While our Music Ministry will lead us in worship, we will not “sing along” on campus.
  • We expect to utilize online registration for you to indicate which service you will be attending.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to be flexible! More details will be communicated as needed.

Blessings,
George
